Kaysha: African Bohemian

Kaysha, (Edward Mokolo Jr.) Born January 22nd, 1974, in Kinshasa the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo but later moved at the age of 7, with his parents, to France. Kaysha is an expressive manly singer, with a voice that has captivated much of African and European pop music listeners alike.

Since the late 1990’s, ever since his entrance album, “I’m ready”, Kaysha’s singer career as a songster has skyrocketed; publishing hits that could categorize anywhere from R&B, afro-pop, to contemporary. Kaysha’s skill to sing in English, French, the focal Congolese tongues, (heck, even Spanish!) has delivered him the superior hand and charm to ears of thousands of fans all around the globe.

His presence in the 2000’s was what made him Kaysha. From 2000 to 2009, he’s released albums on albums. Kaysha has even expanded his outreach further due to his collaborations with Wu-Tang Clan’s Killah Priest on “World Wide Chicho”. Kaysha’s hustle and perseverance in the music industry are tough to match.

His touring experience of thousands of shows around the West Indies and vast parts of Africa has made him an iconic multi-talented artist. He has 2 Kora Awards on his belt, (2000 and 2004 both for the best artist of the year.) along with making television appearances on CNN news channel, twice. While he’s not singing or touring or winning awards, he’s producing for a handful of other artists as well.

As of late, his career has taken a not so different route, Kaysha has winded down a bit and focused on hosting a variety of worldwide events, along with creating multiple remixes of his oldies and new songs as well.

The man’s passion for music has been proven to be unmatchable and his continuity unstoppable. Kaysha is the embodiment of a global mega-pop star, only the future will tell what he does next.
